Tyler Perry is on the move with a plethora of new films and a TV series set to debut this year. In a recent announcement, Netflix revealed that Perry is set to release Madea’s Destination Wedding, Straw, R&B, Part 2 of Beauty in Black, and She The People.
In 2023, a billionaire filmmaker entered into a multi-year creative partnership agreement, committing to write, direct, and produce for Netflix. This year’s project lineup and his previous work since signing the deal (Mea Culprit, Beauty in Black (Season 1), and Six Triple Eight) will make a total of nine film projects for the New Orleans native.
So far one project has an established release date, while others are still pending confirmation for their release dates this year.
Here’s an outline of Perry’s upcoming television series and film set to debut on Netflix:
Madea’s Destination Wedding
Madea joins forces with her crew: Bam (Cassie Davis), Mr. Brown, and Cora (David and Tamala Mann) in Madea’s Destination Wedding.
The plot centers around Madea’s nephew, Brian, and his ex-wife, Debrah, as they grapple with the shocking news that their daughter, Tiffany, is set to marry a rapper she met on a yacht, with the wedding date looming just two weeks away.
In a lively escapade, Madea and her entourage journey to the Bahamas, sparking a series of familial conflicts and comedic misadventures.
STRAW
The cast of Straw includes notable talents such as Taraji P. Henson, Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor, Glynn Turman, Sinbad, and Rockmond Dunbar, showcasing a diverse and dynamic lineup.
Henson portrays a single mother in the narrative, facing a series of misfortunes that seem insurmountable, ultimately leading her on an unexpected journey.
Perry’s upcoming project, Straw, marks his fourth partnership with Henson, following their work together on The Family That Preys, I Can Do Bad All By Myself, and Acrimony.
