A Kansas City Reporter Assigned to Cover the Super Bowl in New Orleans, Was Found Dead in His Hotel Room

Police are investigating the death of a Kansas City Telemundo television reporter, Adan Manzano, who was found dead in his hotel on Wednesday in Kenner, Louisiana, located outside of New Orleans.

On Friday, police arrested 49-year-old Danette Colbert in connection with the murder, after she attempted to use his credit card.

Security footage showed Colbert arriving with Manzano at his hotel room and later leaving without him. Authorities also discovered that she used Manzano’s credit card at several stores.

Four felony offenses, including fraud and theft, led to Colbert’s arrest. According to St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office Lt. Suzanne Carboni, Colbert also faces a state felony charge of possession of a stolen firearm, but do not believe it’s related to Manzano’s case. Upon her arrest, authorities also discovered narcotics at her home.

Police believe that Colbert acted alone and said that she is described as a career criminal known in the New Orleans police for committing fraud schemes – dating back to 2012.

The coroner’s office is conducting an autopsy and toxicology tests to determine the cause of Manzano’s death.

Manzano was a sports reporter and TV anchor who had covered the Kansas City Chiefs’ past two Super Bowl victories. Manzano leaves behind a two-year-old whom he was raising as a single father after his wife died in a car accident almost a year ago in April 2024.
