New York Attorney General Letitia James responds after being federally indicted on charges brought by the Trump administration.
In a video statement released Thursday, James called the allegations “baseless” and accused former President Donald Trump of “weaponizing the justice system for political revenge.”
“He’s forcing federal law enforcement to do his bidding, all because I did my job,” James said.
The Democratic attorney general urged bipartisan leaders to speak out against what she described as “a blatant perversion of our system of justice.” Standing firm, James reminded viewers of her office’s successful civil fraud case against Trump and his sons earlier this year.
She concluded her address with a message of faith and resolve, while referring the biblical scripture, Isaiah 54-17.
“I’m not fearful. I’m fearless. No weapon formed against me shall prosper.”
According to Politico, the five-page indictment accuses James of one count of bank fraud and one count of making false statements to a financial institution. Prosecutors allege she obtained a loan for a home in Virginia on the condition that it serve as her secondary residence, but instead used the property as a rental investment.
