A tragic murder-suicide unfolded at a hospital in Alabama after a young mother was fatally shot by her husband shortly after giving birth.
Authorities in Homewood responded Sunday, March 1, to a shooting at the Women’s Center of Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital, where they found Precious Johnson, 24, and her husband, Kynath William Terry Jr., 19, dead from gunshot wounds.
Investigators say Terry shot Johnson multiple times before turning the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide.
Terry’s mother, who declined to be interviewed on camera, told local outlets the couple had been experiencing marital issues but said she was shocked by the violence and was unaware of any prior history of abuse. Reports also indicated that Johnson did not want Terry’s family present at the hospital for the birth of the child.
The hospital entered lockdown after the incident, according to a statement released by the hospital Sunday evening. The lockdown was later lifted after authorities determined there was no active threat to patients, staff, or the public.
Terry, who had recently married Johnson, had just completed Army National Guard training.
No one else was injured, and officials say the case remains under investigation.
