Greenville, South Carolina, screenwriter-director and civil engineer Destiny Macon is taking her filmmaking journey a step further with her feature length, “Burn House,” following the success of her short film “Talk Black.”
The feature, based in Charleston, SC, is a psychological horror thriller she co-wrote, follows a woman who, after being fired from her job as a talk show host, retreats alone to a lake house—rumored to have healing properties. While there, supernatural forces push her to confront unresolved issues from her past. Macon is producing the project through her production company, Hush Girl Productions.
Macon, who started her production company in 2019, previous short film, Talk Black, was selected as one of five finalists for the HBO Short Film Award at the 2022 American Black Film Festival, according to The State. “Talk Black,” now available on HBO Max, was written and directed by Macon, follows a timid engineer who develops a wild and expressive split personality that helps her stand up to the boys’ club at work.

According to her website, Hush Girls Productions, the screenplay for Talk Black (the feature) was also a winner in ScreenCraft’s 2023 comedy competition, was awarded the Sloan Writing Fellowship Award through the Athena Film Festival lab, and participated in the New York Stage and Film’s filmmaker workshop.
Macon also directed The Abyssal in 2024, a surreal romance about Janay, whose longing for a longtime friend she once rejected manifests as a literal hole in her chest. As he prepares to marry someone else, Janay must confront her feelings, embrace vulnerability and find a path toward healing.
