Brian McKnight went on Instagram to do his Question and Answer segment he started, stating that he does not claim his estranged biological children because they’re a product of sin.
The 54-year-old addressed a fan’s question about some relatives being “pure evil,” further justifying his decision to no longer claim his four oldest biological children, Brian Jr., Niko, Briana, and Clyde.
“To live a life you love, you must get rid of evil and negativity, even if it’s related to you,” McKnight stated.
He addressed another fan’s question in another Q/A post, “You have a daughter, I wonder how this post makes her feel” – referencing McKnight’s post on his Instagram page of his step-daughter’s graduation.
He replied by saying his step-daughter, Juila, he claims as a daughter, feels great and that she knows scriptures, quoting Exodus 20-12:
“Honor thy father and mother that thou days may be long on the land the Lord thy God is giveth thee” stating that she honor her parents and in return they honor her.
A social media user commented on the post with the following statement:
“The same God that said “honor your father & mother” also said, “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” AND “Train up a child in the way he should go.& when he is older, he will not depart from it”. Your children are a reflection of the work & prayers & spirituality & moral compass that PARENTS POUR INTO KIDS. You disowned kids that you created & you are also against God, but judgment day is between you & your maker, so #carryon”
The “One Last Cry” singer replied, “1. God wasn’t talking about sinful children like these 2. I didn’t raise them; their mothers did 3. Know the context before quoting the Bible. 4. Leave your erroneous criticism off my website and be happy.” McKnight and his four oldest children have fought for years.
McKnight faced backlash on social media last year for disassociating himself from his oldest son, whose name is “BRIAN MCKNIGHT JR” by changing his name to “BRIAN KAINOA MAKOA SR” after the birth of newborn baby, “BRIAN KAINOA MAKOA JR.”
His reason for the name change was he (McKnight) wanted his newborn son to fit his legacy through the name change.
