LaVon Bracy Davis has defeated her brother, Randolph Bracy, in the primary race to become the Democratic nominee for a state senate seat in Florida. The siblings’ mother, Dr. Lavon Wright Bracy, served as her daughter’s campaign manager. Mrs. Davis won 42% of the vote, while her brother came last with just 12%.
One of the family’s close friends, civil rights activist Geraldine Thompson, held the seat until her death on February 13, 2025. The siblings’ mother was the maid of honor at Thompson’s wedding.
The Thompson family, too, sided with and endorsed Bracy Davis.
Bracy Davis portrays herself on her campaign site as a continuation of Thompson’s legacy of justice, progress, and service.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Mr. Bracy stated that it was “disappointing and hurtful” that his sister decided to enter the primary race and run against him.
The winner of the race will face Republican Willie Montague, who is a Democratic stronghold in the district.
