Authorities say 16-year-old Desmond Holly, who opened fire at Evergreen High School this week, critically injuring two classmates before taking his own life, had been radicalized online through extremist networks.
Investigators confirmed that social media accounts tied to Holly contained troubling material, including references to mass shootings, antisemitic rhetoric, and white supremacist slogans. In one post, uploaded just days before the attack, Holly appeared wearing a black shirt resembling one worn by a Columbine shooter. Roughly an hour before Wednesday’s shooting, he shared an image of a revolver — the same type of weapon used in the assault.

The attack left two students hospitalized in critical condition. One of the victims, identified as 18-year-old Matthew Silverstone, is fighting for his life, while the second victim has not been publicly named. Both families have requested privacy as they navigate an immensely difficult recovery process.
Evergreen High School will remain closed through the week as investigators work to piece together a clearer picture of Holly’s motive and path to radicalization. Authorities have not disclosed additional details about his online activity but confirmed the content suggests exposure to extremist ideology.
The Jefferson County community continues to grieve as families, students, and staff process the tragedy.
