Authorities Have Not Ruled Out a Second Suspect in the Disappearance of Nancy Guthrie

Authorities have not publicly ruled out the possibility that more than one person was involved in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84‑year‑old mother of NBC’s Today co‑anchor Savannah Guthrie. Investigators, however, have not confirmed multiple suspects and are focusing on leads from video and DNA evidence.

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on February 1, 2026, after she was last seen by family the evening of January 31, 2026, at her home in the Catalina Foothills area near Tucson, Arizona.

Surveillance footage from a doorbell camera shows a masked individual approaching Guthrie’s home in the early morning hours of February 1. Based on forensic analysis of that footage and related evidence, law enforcement describes the person as a male about 5′9″ to 5′10″ tall with an average build, though no confirmed identification has been made.

According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect was carrying a black Ozark Trail backpack (approximately 25 L) sold at Walmart. Officials clarified that while the backpack model is available at that retailer, the clothing and gear seen on video are widely available and not exclusive to Walmart.

Investigators have also recovered DNA evidence from a glove found several miles from the scene, which they believe links it to the suspect seen on video. The suspect’s identity and whereabouts remain unknown.

Authorities have announced that the reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s safe return has exceeded $200,000, reflecting contributions from the FBI and local sources.

Savannah Guthrie has made multiple emotional public appeals for her mother’s safe return, including an Instagram video in mid‑February in which she said her family still “has hope” and urged anyone with information or involved to “do the right thing” and come forward.

The investigation remains active, with no arrests or public identification of suspects. Law enforcement continues to process forensic evidence, review tips and video from neighbors, and work with federal partners.
