The 32nd annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards took place on March 1st at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, recognizing the year’s top performances in film and television. Hosted by Kristen Bell and streamed live on Netflix, the ceremony featured a blend of anticipated victories, heartfelt tributes, and pivotal moments that could influence the race leading up to the 98th Annual Academy Awards on March 15th.
“Sinners” Strengthens Its Awards-Season Momentum
The night’s biggest headline belonged to Sinners, which won Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, the top film honor at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The film also secured a major victory for its leading actor, Michael B. Jordan, who took home Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role, further strengthening his standing as a frontrunner heading into the Academy Awards. Jordan’s win marked another milestone in a strong awards-season run. Earlier in the season, he received recognition at the NAACP Image Awards and the Black Reel Awards for his performance.

The victory was particularly notable because One Battle After Another entered the ceremony with the most nominations but ultimately walked away with just one win. The outcome signals a potential late shift in the awards-season narrative, positioning Sinners as a formidable contender as the Oscar race intensifies.
Acting Categories Reflect a Competitive Year
Elsewhere in the film categories, several acclaimed performances were recognized. Jessie Buckley won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for Hamnet, while Sean Penn earned Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for One Battle After Another. Amy Madigan rounded out the film acting honors with Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for Weapons.

As one of the few major awards voted on entirely by actors, the SAG Awards are widely seen as an important indicator for the Academy Awards, making these wins particularly influential as Oscar voting approaches.
Television Honors Go to “The Studio” and “The Pitt”
On the television side, The Studio and The Pitt stood out among the evening’s most recognized series. The Pitt entered the ceremony with seven nominations, while The Studio followed with five nominations. Both shows went on to secure multiple awards during the night. The results reflect the continued prominence of prestige television and highlight the expanding influence of streaming platforms across the awards landscape.
Emotional Tributes Provide the Night’s Heart
Beyond the competitive categories, the ceremony featured several emotional moments. Legendary actor Harrison Ford received the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award, reflecting on his decades-long career and enduring legacy in Hollywood.

Another poignant tribute occurred when the late Catherine O’Hara was honored posthumously for her work on The Studio. The Home Alone actress passed away in January 2026. Actor and series creator Seth Rogen accepted the award on her behalf, delivering one of the evening’s most heartfelt moments.
Humor, Politics and Industry Reflection
Throughout the night, the ceremony balanced humor with moments of reflection. The host skillfully mixed lighthearted commentary with thoughtful insights, keeping the audience engaged. At various points, jokes about the challenges of live television, comparing it to parenting as “chaotic, unpredictable, and occasionally terrifying,” elicited laughter while easing into more serious moments.

While the event maintained a celebratory tone, several acceptance speeches addressed global tensions and broader social issues, highlighting how award shows continue to serve as platforms for cultural conversation. The combination of levity and insight helped navigate the evening’s balance between entertainment and meaningful dialogue.
With Sinners emerging as one of the night’s most celebrated films and notable performances recognized across the television categories, the 2026 Actor Awards offered a clear snapshot of the current awards-season landscape. As the industry shifts focus to the Academy Awards, the ceremony’s results could provide early insight into how the Oscar race may unfold.
