Mexican Woman Arrested in Execution-Style Killing of Daughter-in-Law, Allegedly Driven by Jealousy Over Her Son

Mexican grandmother accused of killing her beauty queen daughter-in-law in an execution-style shooting has been arrested after allegedly fleeing from Mexico City to Venezuela following a two-week international manhunt.

The incident happened on April 15th of the disturbing video allegedly shows Erika María Herrera, 63, following Carolina Flores, 27, inside her Mexico City apartment as Flores went to get water for her, according to multiple reports. Moments later, gunshots rang out. After the shooting, Flores’ husband, Alejandro, seen holding what appeared to be the infant son, confronted his mother, asking, “What did you do, you crazy woman?” Herrera reportedly replied, “Nothing,” and later claimed she made her angry, saying to her son, “you’re mines and she stole you” after the son said she’s my family.

Herrera reportedly shot her daughter in law six times in the head, and six times in the chest. The incident wasn’t shown in the survallence video, as background noise was only heard.

Flores’ husband is being investigated for delaying the crime reporting for nearly a day. He reportedly said he stayed home to care for their baby, attempting to feed and bathe the child before contacting a lawyer. The victim’s mother, Reyna Gómez Molina, believes the delay gave Herrera time to escape.

According to The Sun, a friend said Herrera “never liked” Flores, with tensions worsening during her pregnancy; other reports point to a possible multimillion-dollar inheritance dispute as a motive.

Flores was crowned Miss Teen Baja California in 2017. The suspect is in the process of being extradited to Mexico from Venezuela.
