Authorities in Peoria County, Illinois, arrested 24-year-old Jeremiah Duncan in connection to the death of a 20-year-old mother, Heaven J. Wood and their 2-year-old son, KJ Duncan-Wood.
The deadly incident, which occured on September 25th, involved a domestic violence dispute involving the mother and suspect.
According to authorities, the 20-year-old was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside a home near the scene of a vehicle fire. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Her 2-year-old son, was found inside the burning vehicle by investigators after the suspect tried to escape. According to the Peoria County Coroner’s Office, as reported by 25 News, the child suffered severe smoke inhalation and likely died moments after the fire began. Two other children were found unarmed in the home.
Deputies reportedly found Jeremiah Duncan armed with a knife. He was taken to a undisclosed medical facility for treatment of burns, and later taken into custody.
Duncan has an upcoming scheduled court appearance on October 5, 2026, at 3 p.m. CT, according to VINELink.
