Monique reshared a video of Tyler Perry’s speech during Angie Stone’s funeral from The Jasmine Brand. In the video, the film mogul expressed his disappointment in how the deceased singer was treated by her record label.
Monique wrote an open letter to express her heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of Angie Stone before calling out Perry. She addressed Perry while highlighting significant points he made in his speech on the mistreatment of Stone while noting four similar actions he had done towards her.
She criticized the billionaire mogul in his speech, stating that he’s “tired” of us not receiving the benefits we deserve. She also criticized him for asking her to promote the 2009 film he produced, Precious, for free, without a contract or compensation, and called his actions a double standard.
In one of the points, she highlighted Perry saying, “Where’s the money she’s [Stone] owed?” while asking, “Well, where’s my public apology that you promised in 2016?” calling out his false narrative actions he perpetuated, which led to her being blackballed in the industry, costing her tens of millions, and asking, Where’s the restitution for that?

She also pointed out that he expressed his anger over Stone’s mistreatment by record labels and promoters, while criticizing him for labeling her as “difficult to work with,” even though he had never collaborated with her. “How can you condemn poor treatment of others when you’ve imposed the same on me? ” the Queens of Comedy legend wrote.
And him saying we should be careful in how we treat “children of God, while calling him out for his lack of responsibility to act on love and truth as a man of faith for not giving her an apology years ago, noting that he should also be held accountable.

Monique also included audio recordings of her and her husband’s conversation with Perry, in which Perry admitted that he had made a mistake by saying that she was difficult to work with, and he promised to apologize.
She closed the letter, saying that she hopes his words at Stone’s funeral inspire him to correct the wrongs he has done to her and her family.
She ended the letter with a Bible quote from Mark 8:36, “What will it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul?”
