A Utah Nurse Accused of Murdering Her Friend After Faking That She Has a Cancer Diagnosis to Claim Her 1.5 Million Life Insurance

A Utah licensed registered nurse, Meggan Randall Sundwall, faces murder charges for allegedly poisoning her friend, Kacee Lyn Terry, to collect her 1.5 million life insurance money. Sundwall led Terry to believe she was dying of cancer for five years, despite her being healthy.

Phone records revealed more than 28,000 messages about Sundwall’s willingness to assist her friend in dying and if she was Terry she would kill herself, according to the Independent.

On August 12, 2024, Terry was found unconscious in her bedroom by her uncle after having trouble breathing with Sundwall in the room.

She was pronounced brain dead in the hospital on August 15. An autopsy confirmed Terry had no cancer or health issues. She attempted to persuade Sundwall overdosed her friend with promethazine, probable exogenous insulin and other drugs, per Medical Examiner report. Sundwall and her husband faced financial difficulties after she lost her job.

Sundwall was taking into custody in the Utah County Jail, and was booked on March 20, 2025.
