Prime Video Developing Contemporary Wizard of Oz  Series Titled, Dorothy

Prime Video is diving back into the Land of Oz with Dorothy, a contemporary, music-infused reimagining of L. Frank Baum’s classic tale. The series comes from creator Gina Matthews, with Grammy-winning artists Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton attached as executive producers.

Unlike traditional adaptations, Dorothy updates the iconic Yellow Brick Road, transforming it into a metaphor for the challenges and choices facing young adults in today’s world.

In a statement to Deadline, Matthews expressed her lifelong connection to Baum’s work:

“I’ve been in love with The Wizard of Oz books since I was a child. The story reminds us of the qualities we need to get through hard times, and Dorothy is a symbol of strength who shows us that with a little kindness, and a lot of grit.”

“We can not only achieve great things but also lift up those around us. I’m excited to bring that message to the world, now more than ever,” she added.

The series remains in early development, with no release date confirmed. But with its modern setting, musical edge, and a creative team blending Hollywood and music industry powerhouses, Dorothy has already sparked speculation: could this be the next Wicked?
