Yesterday, Cardi B issued a stern warning that she plans to countersue and “make them pay” anyone who files frivolous lawsuits against her. Speaking after being cleared in a civil assault and battery trial, the rapper expressed frustration over having to miss her children’s first and last day of school to attend court.
She thanked her supporters, jurors, lawyers, and members of the press, before making it clear she refuses to be pressured into quick settlements.
“I did not touch that girl,” Cardi B declared.
“People think celebrities will just settle a lawsuit, but I’m not the one to settle. You don’t go to work all day just to give away your hard-earned money, and neither do I. I work hard for my kids and the people I take care of. So don’t think you’re going to sue me and I’ll just hand over my money—it’s not going to happen.”
“I am not that celebrity you think you can sue and I’m just going to settle,” she emphasized.
The rapper, 32, also urged fans not to harass her online about her appearance or with negative comments.
A California jury found Cardi B not liable in a $24 million civil lawsuit filed by former security guard Emani Ellis, who accused her of assaulting her during a 2018 encounter in the hallway of a medical office. At the time, Cardi B—then pregnant and on her way to an obstetrician appointment—denied the allegations.
Ellis, who claimed she suffered a scratch on her face, had been seeking punitive damages and medical expenses. The jury ultimately sided with Cardi B, clearing her of all claims.
