Coral Springs Vice Mayor, who was allegedly killed by her husband, was the sister of Donovan Joshua Leigh Metayer, a survivor of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, who died by suicide in December 2025.
Nancy Metayer Bowen was found dead in her home on April 1. Authorities have arrested her husband, Stephen Bowen, in connection with her killing. He was charged with premeditated murder and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
This devastating loss comes just months after Nancy mourned the loss of her younger brother, who died by suicide in December. A survivor of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, Donovan had struggled mentally in the aftermath of the 2018 tragedy.

Nancy was elected as Coral Springs Vice Mayor in 2020. The Florida A&M University and Johns Hopkins University graduate was appointed to serve a second term on November 13, 2025. She was the first female Haitian American to hold that position in the city.
In addition, she also served on the following committees: Accessibility Advisory Group, Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, Broward League of Cities, Florida League of Cities, Environmental Sustainability Committee, Multicultural Advisory Committee, Charter School Board of Directors, Charter School Advisory Board, and Solid Waste Authority, according to Coral Springs’ city government website.
