A chilling social media post dated August 28, 2021 was retweeted by Ashlee Jenae.
The post read: “I just wanna k*ll myself no fuccen cap.”
The 31-year-old was found unconscious in her villa at Zuri Zanzibar and rushed to a local hospital, where her death was confirmed hours later, according to a statement from her family.
Prior to her passing, she shared social media content documenting her birthday trip in Africa with her fiancé, Joe McCann, including safari experiences, scenic moments, and his proposal.
Authorities in the North Unguja Region, including Police Commander Benedict Mapujira, have stated that preliminary investigations indicate her death was a suicide by hanging, as reported by Mwananchi on April 13th.
However, her family strongly disputes those claims.
“Nothing about this loss feels real. One moment she was celebrating love and life in true Ashly fashion, and the next, she was gone. The suddenness, the unanswered questions, and the distance from home have made this tragedy even more overwhelming for our family,” the family said in a statement.
They added that they are placing their trust in Zanzibar authorities as the investigation continues. The case remains under investigation pending the release of autopsy results.
