LAPD Fatally Shoots a Dog After Responding To a 911 Call, in Which the Household Celebrating the Knicks Win Was Mistaken For a Distress Call

LAPD officers shot and killed a 2-year-old dog at a California apartment complex after responding to a 911 wellness check call.

According to police, the dog, whose name is Jameson Garcia, barked at the officers while speaking to her. She was asked to secure the dog by her closing the door momentarily before reopening it. The dog charged at the officer after leaving the apartment, prompting the officer-involved shooting.

However, Jameson’s owner, Marie Marseille, and several witnesses tell a different story. They say Marie was attempting to secure the dog when he slipped past her and approached the officers in a friendly, non-threatening manner.

The video, which garnered millions of views, shows the owner hovering over her dog while in his Knicks shirt, crying.

Witnesses were heard in the backyard saying he’s such a good dog and even questioning the officers while making sarcastic remarks.

The 911 caller reportedly believed a woman inside the apartment was in danger but later discovered she was celebrating the Knicks’ victory against the Spurs. The caller later expressed regret over contacting police.

The incident remains under investigation by LAPD’s Force Investigation Division.

Jeremiah Garcia, Marseille’s son, set up a GoFundMe account called Justice for Jameson: Help Us Honor His Memory.

“Anyone who’s met Jameson would tell you he is the sweetest boy in the world,” Jeremiah shared.

As of today, over $72, 000 of its $120,000.00 goal has been raised to go towards getting justice for Jameson and any cremation fees.
