Who Was Renee Nicole Good? Inside The Life Of The Minneapolis Woman Killed By ICE

Renee Good hails from Colorado Springs and was a creative writing graduate of Old Dominion University. Her mother described her as one of the kindest people who was compassionate, loving, and devoted to her family.

An Instagram account identifies her as a poet, writer, wife, and mom. Friends remember her warmth and generosity, while neighbors recall her as a peaceful, caring presence in the community.

The 37-year-old was shot and killed inside her car by an ICE agent during a federal operation on Jan. 7th, just blocks from her home. According to the Daily Mail, Good had reportedly used her 4×4 to block agents from a large-scale deportation operation with protesters nearby. Video footage shows agents swarming her, yelling “get out of the f***ing car,” and as she appeared to turn to drive away, an officer fired three shots before crashing into a telephone pole as activists screamed.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed she was shot in the head. The Department of Homeland Security stated the agent fired because he feared for his life, alleging Good tried to hit officers with her vehicle. Former President Donald Trump backed ICE’s account, saying the agent acted in self-defense.

City leaders called the killing avoidable, with Minneapolis’ mayor, Jacob Frey, denouncing ICE’s justification and the governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, saying it shouldn’t have never happen.

Good leaves behind a 6-year-old child, whom she shared with her husband, Timothy Macklin, who died in 2023. Hundreds gathered in her neighborhood for a vigil, chanting her name and honoring her life. Advocates reject claims labeling her as a threat, emphasizing that she died protecting her neighbors.
