Man Killed by Federal ICE Agents in Minneapolis Identified as Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old Department of VA Nurse

Law enforcement has identified the man killed by federal agents in Minneapolis as Alex Pretti, 37, a registered ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System.

Authorities confirmed Pretti was a U.S. citizen who lived in south Minneapolis and worked caring for veterans in critical care. He obtained his nursing license in 2021 and was known professionally for his dedication to patient care. Before entering nursing, Pretti attended the University of Minnesota and assisted with scientific research projects.

Federal officials say the shooting occurred during an operation amid heightened enforcement activity in the city. Investigators claim Pretti approached agents during the encounter; however, video evidence and witness accounts have raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.

Law enforcement confirmed Pretti had no serious criminal history, only minor traffic violations. He was a lawful gun owner with a Minnesota permit to carry, though it remains unclear whether he was armed at the time.

Family and colleagues remember Alex Pretti as compassionate, warm-hearted, and committed to helping others, a caregiver whose life ended during a federal operation now under scrutiny.

This marks the third shooting in Minneapolis this month by federal immigration agents during heightened enforcement operations, following the killing of Renée Good earlier in January and another federal shooting that drew public attention and protests. The second person who was killed by ICE on January 14th was a Venezuelan man, identified as Julio Cesar Sosa-Celia. The incident has sparked protests, calls for independent investigations, and intense debate over federal enforcement tactics in the city.
