Former First Lady, Michelle Obama, Refutes Divorce Rumors Surrounding Her Marriage

Michelle Obama has denied rumors that her marriage to Barack Obama might be in trouble, stating that she is now in a position to control her calendar and make choices for herself on the actress Sophia Bush’s Work in Progress podcast.

She shared that people couldn’t believe she was making her own decision and assumed they were divorcing.

“This couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself, right? But that’s what society does to us,” the former First Lady said.

“I could have made a lot of these decisions years ago, but I didn’t give myself that freedom,” Obama said while also addressing her letting her children live their lives and using their lives as an excuse for why she couldn’t do something.

She also felt some guilt for saying no when she stepped back from certain duties, but now she’s choosing what’s best for her, not what she has to do or what other people want her to.

She still finds time to give speeches, work on projects, and care about girls’ education.

Michelle, who celebrated her 32nd wedding anniversary in Oct. 2024, shared in her memoir, Becoming, that her husband’s political ambitions and time in the White House were tough on the marriage, noting in the book that her husband’s goals led to loneliness and exhaustion.
