32-year-old Jacob Couch died on April 17th from a brutal hatchet attack at a streetcar stop in downtown Tucson, AZ.
The incident happened in broad daylight on April 5th, when Jacob and his wife Kristen made a detour in downtown Tucson on their journey back to Arab, Alabama, after staying in Los Angeles for 10 months after the loss of their stillborn child, who died in May 2024.

The couple were sitting at a bus stop when 25-year-old Daniel Michael confronted and yelled at them. Michael then drew out his weapon, launched at Jacob, and struck his neck with a hatchet as he bent down to collect their belongings before leaving. Michael fled the scene when he hopped onto a streetcar as Couch bled heavily from his wound.

Jacob was admitted to Banner University Medical Center but died nearly two weeks later. Three days after the incident, authorities arrested Jacob’s accused killer. His bond was set at $1 million.
Initially, he was charged with two counts of aggravated assault; however, detectives later upgraded those charges to first-degree murder after Jacob’s death. His upcoming court date is set for April 28th. The family of Jacob do plan to attend Daniel Michael’s preliminary hearing scheduled for next week.
