The Mother of Pittsburgh Steelers’ First-Round Pick Derrick Harmon Passed Away After He Was Drafted by the Team

Tiffany Saine, the mother of Pittsburgh Steelers’ first-round pick #DerrickHarmon passed away after he was drafted by the team.

The team’s president, Art Rooney II, released a statement on Friday confirming the news, and the organization expressed their heartfelt condolences to Harmon and his family.

On the day of his draft, Harmon’s mother was on life support. According to WTAE News, his mother had several brain surgeries and a stroke during his freshman year of college.

During media day he told the news outlet that it was a bittersweet moment because of her hard work, as well as his, to get to this moment. The news outlet also reports that Harmon went to the hospital after his name was called to tell his mother that he was drafted into the NFL.

The news conference in Pittsburgh was canceled, according to the team, while Harmon grieves the loss of his mother. Harmon will be available to speak to the media during rookie minicamp.
