R&B singer R. Kelly’s lawyer has claimed that federal prison officials attempted to end his life through a drug overdose on Friday. This allegation comes just two days after a motion was submitted, asserting that he’s a victim of a conspiracy involving prison authorities and the Aryan Brotherhood gang.
Kelly is currently serving concurrent federal sentences, up to 30 years at the Federal Correctional Institution in Butner, North Carolina. These sentences stem from convictions related to child sex crimes and racketeering in both Illinois and New York.
Recently, attorney Beau B. Brindley submitted an urgent furlough request on behalf of the singer, claiming that he’s a target of a murder plot linked to the Bureau of Prisons. The claim involves the Aryan Brotherhood allegedly ordering his assassination, and Brindley is asking for Kelly to be placed under home detention until the situation is addressed.
Prosecutors reacted to the initial filing from Kelly’s team, stating that the singer is evading responsibility for his crimes related to sexual abuse of minors and attempting to secure an indefinite release through baseless conspiracies.
On Tuesday, Kelly’s legal representatives reaffirmed their claims.
“Mr. Kelly’s life is in danger and the threat comes from Bureau of Prisons officers whose duty is to protect him,” R. Kelly’s lawyer claim, while also citing other incidents against the singer.

Brindley alleged that the Federal Bureau of Prisons deliberately attempted to harm him through medication overdoses (misleading him in the amount of dosage to take for his anxiety & sleep problems), and accusing the prison of withholding necessary medical treatment for his lung blood clots.
The 58-year-old individual was transported to Duke University Hospital for care following an alleged overdose incident.
In light of the claims made by Kelly’s legal representatives, the FBP has refrained from sharing any details regarding the circumstances of his confinement, citing privacy, safety, and security concerns, as reported by CBS.
