Utah County officials released charging documents on Tuesday that shed new light on the case against Tyler Robinson, the suspected gunman accused of killing conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
According to prosecutors, Robinson sent a series of alarming text messages to his roommate on the day of the shooting. In the messages, he allegedly referenced his rifle, hinted at a possible motive, and outlined details of the planning behind the attack.
The documents also reveal that Robinson left behind a handwritten note hidden under a keyboard. The note read: “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.” Investigators say they recovered a photo of the note.

CNN, which reviewed a transcript of the texts cited in the charging documents, reported that Robinson had alerted his roommate to the note via text, sparking an exchange that prosecutors now say is key to establishing premeditation in the case.

The roommate, described in court filings as “a biological male who was involved in a romantic relationship with Robinson,” turned over the text messages to authorities and alerted police to the existence of the note.
Prosecutors argue that the texts, the note, and the statements from Robinson’s roommate collectively provide strong evidence of intent and planning. Robinson is currently facing multiple charges in connection with Kirk’s death.
