Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens has announced a temporary pause on evictions and water shutoffs for city-affiliated housing through January 31, 2026, or until the federal government shutdown ends, in response to the lapse in federal SNAP funding, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
The mayor’s directive extends to key city housing partners — including the Atlanta Housing Authority, Invest Atlanta, the Fulton County/City of Atlanta Land Bank Authority, and Partners for Home — all of which have been instructed to suspend eviction filings and waive late fees in city-owned or city-funded housing for the duration of the pause.

The policy, which took effect on November 1st, is part of the city’s ATL CARES initiative, a program dedicated to protecting vulnerable residents from the economic fallout of federal funding disruptions. The initiative seeks to ensure that Atlanta families can maintain access to essential needs such as food, utilities, and housing, even as the loss of federal food assistance creates financial strain for many households.

In addition to housing protections, the city is partnering with the Atlanta Community Food Bank to provide emergency food aid to families affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
The initiative emphasize the city’s commitment to support residents in times of uncertainty. The combined measures mark a significant step in stabilizing communities and safeguarding families from further economic hardship during the ongoing federal shutdown.
