Prior to the murder-suicide news of former Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax and his estranged wife, Dr. Cerina Fairfax, court documents reveal Justin lost custody of his children and was ordered to move out of the family home by the end of April.
According to records obtained by The Exclusive Press, Dr. Fairfax filed for divorce on July 18, 2025, following their June 2024 separation. A judge granted her custody of their teen children, citing concerns over Justin’s behavior, including heavy daily alcohol use and isolation from family life after the 2019 sexual assault allegations.

The court also noted that in 2022, Justin purchased a handgun with money intended for the children’s horseback riding lessons. He was further fined for failing to comply with court orders during the proceedings.
The court found Dr. Fairfax to be a consistent and active parent, while determining Justin was unable to maintain a healthy relationship with his children due to his alcohol use and withdrawal from family involvement.
