The owner of a Houston funeral home appeared in court on Friday, July 31st, where a judge set her bond at $800,000 and ordered her to stay out of the funeral industry while her criminal case moves forward. She has since been released on bond.
Prosecutors allege that Unique Mica Green-Battle, formerly known as Michael Green, forged documents, including a fake will claiming to be the surviving spouse of 78-year-old Lawrence Gammon, in an attempt to steal more than $2.2 million from his estate and falsified documents, including a death certificate, to gain access to his properties and bank accounts.
During the investigation, authorities discovered a Home Depot bucket filled with organs, and 48 boxes of cremated human remains inside the property, according to ABC 30 News, some belonging to families who had been waiting since 2023 to have their loved ones’ remains returned.
Green-Battle faces five felony charges. She has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Green-Battle avoided questions from the media, even lashing out, in response to the allegations. The case remains ongoing.
