Mariah Carey Respectfully Declines to Discuss Her Co-Parenting Relationship with Nick Cannon

Mariah Carey recently opted to keep details of her co-parenting relationship with ex-husband Nick Cannon private during an interview on CBS Mornings. On September 24, 2025, during her appearance on CBS Mornings, host Gayle King asked Carey about how she and Cannon navigate raising their 14-year-old twins.

In response, Carey said: “I kind of feel like it’s best if I don’t talk about him, because he can just be in his own world. No offense to him.”

Carey’s intention was not to be dismissive but to preserve boundaries, especially in how much she discloses in public. This is not the first time she has addressed their parenting approach. During her interview with Harper’s Bazaar in July, she previously shared more general thoughts about fairness in co-parenting and ensuring a healthy environment for their children.

“They spend time with him, and they have a good time; they spend time with me, and they have a good time,” she stated.

“I want to make sure I’m always fair about the situation because it’s tough to grow up with divorced parents,” she added.

By choosing to deflect the question in this interview, Carey reaffirmed her preference to keep the inner workings of her family life out of the public eye, especially when it involves her former partner. Carey and Cannon finalized their divorce in 2016 after eight years of marriage. During their marriage, they welcomed twins Monroe and Moroccan in April 2011. Cannon became a father to ten children following his divorce from Carey, with five different women: Brittany Bell, Abby De La Rosa, Alyssa Scott, Bre Tiesi, and LaNisha Cole.

The 6-time GRAMMY winner also discussed her 16th studio album, Here for It All (which is now out), the album’s inspiration, her love of Christmas, and even the heartbreaking loss of her mother and sister on the same day.
