Sean “Diddy” Combs has transformed his experience in one of America’s most notorious jails into a significant opportunity for personal growth. During his time at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC), the 55-year-old music mogul developed and instructed a six-week business program called “Free Game with Diddy.” The curriculum is designed to provide inmates with essential skills in entrepreneurship, business management, and personal development. The program was disclosed by his attorneys in a 182-page presentencing submission submitted on Monday as part of an appeal for sentence leniency in advance of Combs’ sentencing scheduled for October 3rd, according to Business Insider.
The classroom within the jail was made available to all inmates in Combs’ dorm, with a Spanish interpreter provided to ensure inclusivity for everyone. His attorneys highlighted that, due to the absence of alternative educational programs within the jail, the course significantly influenced the participants. His legal team shared that the course is the “most impactful and important endeavors of his life,” and he aims to make the curriculum accessible to youth and inmates in nationwide state-operated facilities.

Combs, who has been in jail since September 2024, was convicted on July 2, 2025, on charges related to prostitution after a federal trial in Manhattan. The jury acquitted him of the most severe charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, thereby preventing a potential life sentence. Prosecutors have requested that U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian impose a lengthy sentence, contending that Combs’ actions warrant substantial prison time. In the meantime, his defense team is advocating for a significantly reduced sentence, contending that his year-long detention at MDC has constituted sufficient punishment.

In their filing, his attorneys stated that Combs has utilized his time effectively by mentoring fellow inmates and fostering opportunities for personal development within the jail. His legal team also wants Combs to return to his family, allowing him to continue his treatment and embark on the next chapter of his life. Next week’s sentencing will determine whether he will be released in the near future or continue to serve additional years in incarceration.
